How to follow up an RV Trader lead

Call while the customer is still on the listing, keep every promise you make on that call, show them the unit, and keep going when they go quiet. Here's a plain plan for the first call, the first week and after.

The first call: while they're on the listing

Someone who sends a lead from RV Trader is usually still looking at that unit, and often at similar units from other dealers. The best time to call is right then, while they remember what they asked and why.

Keep the first call about them and the unit:

  • Answer the question they asked. If they asked whether it's still available, start there.
  • Learn what they're really after. How they'll use it, what they tow with or drive now, and when they want to be camping.
  • Agree on the next step before you hang up. A visit, a video of the unit, or a time to talk numbers.

Keep every promise from the call

"I'll send you some pictures tonight." "I'll call you Friday after I talk to my manager." Each one is a small promise, and a customer comparing dealers notices which ones get kept. Write each one down as a follow-up with a day, or use a CRM that does it for you.

Show them the unit

Listing photos all look alike. A short video of the actual unit, filmed by the salesperson who'll meet them, answers questions the photos can't and gives the customer a reason to come see it in person. Send it by text or email, and watch for whether they open it.

The first week

Most RV Trader leads don't buy on the first call. A simple plan for the week after:

  • Day one: the call, then a text or email that recaps what you talked about.
  • Within a couple of days: the walkthrough video, or answers to anything you promised to find out.
  • By the end of the week: a call with a reason: a visit time, a similar unit that just came in, or numbers you said you'd run.

Every contact should give the customer something new. "Just checking in" isn't a reason.

When they go quiet

A customer who stops answering may still be shopping. Keep them on a slower follow-up, and reach out when something changes that matters to them: a price drop on the unit they asked about, the unit coming back on the lot, or a new unit that matches what they want.

How DealerPulse helps

DealerPulse takes in RV Trader leads along with your other lead sources. With Instant Call, a salesperson from your store is calling the customer, usually within a minute, while you're open. When RV Trader tells you the shopper also called or texted from the listing, DealerPulse adds it to that customer's history instead of making a second lead.

Every call is recorded with an AI summary on the customer's history, and what the salesperson promises on a call or in a text becomes a follow-up on the right day. Salespeople film personalized walkthrough videos in the DealerPulse app and send them by text or email. Each follow-up shows a suggested next step, and alerts flag price drops, units back on the lot and new matches for what the customer is looking for.

For customers who have gone quiet, AI Dormant Follow-Up Assist, part of Pulse Max, takes over the follow-up once the salesperson or a manager says yes, so salespeople spend their time on engaged customers.

Questions

RV Trader leads, answered.

How fast should we call an RV Trader lead?

While the customer is still on the listing. At a multi-store RV dealership running DealerPulse, the median time from a new lead to a salesperson picking up was 42 seconds over the 30 days to September 30, 2026.

How long should we keep following up an RV Trader lead?

Until the customer buys, tells you they bought somewhere else, or asks you to stop. After the first week, follow up less often and reach out when something changes, like a price drop or a matching unit coming in.

Does DealerPulse work with RV Trader leads?

Yes. DealerPulse takes in leads from RVTrader.com and most other major RV lead sources, and each customer has one history across calls, texts and emails.
