Business texting registration, explained for RV dealers

Before a dealership can text customers from a business number, the mobile carriers have to approve it. Here's what that registration is, why it takes a few weeks, and how DealerPulse handles it.

What business texting registration is

The US mobile carriers require any business that texts customers from a regular phone number to register first: who the business is, and what kind of messages it sends. It's usually called 10DLC registration. Registration is how carriers keep spam off their networks, so registered texting is texting that reaches your customers, while business texts from unregistered numbers can be filtered or blocked.

Why it takes 13–20 business days

The carriers review each dealership's registration before its texting can start, and that review takes about 13–20 business days. It is the longest wait in getting started with DealerPulse, so it goes first: registration starts the day you sign up and runs while we set up your stores, users and lead sources.

Each dealership registers its own texting

Your dealership's texting is registered under your dealership, not shared with other businesses. Customers see texts from your store, and another company's complaints can't hold up your texts.

What your team should know

  • Nothing is texted before approval. DealerPulse holds texting until the carriers approve it. Calls and email work in the meantime.
  • Opt-outs are honored. A customer who replies STOP isn't texted again.
  • Every text lands on one history. Texts from your salespeople go out from your dealership's business numbers and sit on the customer's history with their calls and emails.
Questions

Business texting, answered.

Can we text customers before registration is approved?

Not from your dealership's business numbers. Carriers filter or block business texts from numbers that aren't registered, so DealerPulse waits for approval before texting starts. Calls and email work in the meantime.

How long does business texting registration take?

About 13–20 business days for the carriers to approve a dealership's texting. DealerPulse starts it the day you sign up, so it runs while everything else is set up.

What happens when a customer replies STOP?

They aren't texted again. DealerPulse records the opt-out and checks it before every text.
